Guidelines for Submitting Originals

Classictown Books adheres to strict ethical guidelines in the evaluation of submitted manuscripts. The publisher does not accept works that promote discrimination, bullying, harassment, or denialism, nor does it accept texts that have already been published in English. Submissions must adhere to the following formatting and content guidelines:

  • Length: Manuscripts must not exceed 200 pages (font size 12, 1.5 line spacing).
  • Text: We recommend authors adjust their theses or dissertations to a more fluid and clear language, reducing excessive footnotes or references.
  • Collections: Collections should not contain more than 8 (eight) chapters or essays.

Formatting Requirements

  • File Format: Manuscripts must be submitted in Word document format.
  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Title Size: 14
  • Body Text: 12
  • Long Quotes: Size 11
  • Footnotes: Explanatory footnotes should be in size 10.
  • Endnotes: Endnotes, including bibliographic references or sources, should be in size 10.

Submission Details

  • We do not accept printed manuscripts for evaluation.
  • At the end of the manuscript, please include the author(s)' name(s) along with a brief professional biography. The biography should contain:
    • Full name
    • Field of expertise
    • Affiliation (institution)
    • Email address
    • Titles of up to three of the author(s)' most relevant publications

These guidelines are designed to ensure a clear, professional, and consistent submission process for all potential authors.

Citation and Bibliographic Reference Guidelines

In-text citations:

  • Citations of up to three lines should be enclosed in quotation marks (“ ”).
  • Citations exceeding three lines should be formatted with the source in font size 11, single-spaced, and with a 4 cm left margin indent.

Footnotes and Endnotes:

  • All notes should be placed at the end of the book.
  • Only essential explanatory notes (e.g., translated words or translation issues) should appear as footnotes and should use asterisks (*) to indicate them.

Examples of Proper Bibliographic References

  1. Arthur C. Danto, “A note on history and narrative”, History & Theory (1967).
  2. Hayden White, The Content of the Form: Narrative Discourse and Historical Representation (Baltimore: John Hopkins University Press, 1979).
  3. Harold Bloom, “Posface”, in: Mary Shelley, Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus (New York: Signet Classics, 2013), 4.
  4. Pierre Chaunu, Apud François Hartog, Regimes de Historicidade (São Paulo: Autêntica, 2013), 246.

Important Observation: There is no need to include a bibliographic list at the end of the book. The footnotes will already provide the necessary bibliographic details.

Index: An Index of Names will be required at the end of all published works.

Evaluation of Submissions

Upon receiving a manuscript, the editor will submit it to one of Classictown Books executive editors, a member of the editorial board, or, in the case of a highly specialized topic, an ad hoc evaluator. The evaluator will then prepare a report recommending whether the manuscript should be published.

If the verdict is negative, the author may request a second evaluation. If the report is favorable, the author will discuss with the publisher the preferred format for publication (digital, print, or both) and will receive a personalized budget detailing the costs associated with the production of the book, based on the services requested. The budget will be sent via email.

Publishing Process

Once the budget is approved, the author will receive a contract for the book's production, which must be signed and returned to Classictown Books. The author must also make a down payment of 40% of the total budget to initiate the production process. When the editorial work is complete, the author will pay the remaining 60%. Only after the full payment is made will the author receive the finalized version of the book for reading and review.

The author will have up to 60 days to request adjustments and corrections, marking the necessary modifications in the text. The revised document, with the author's suggested changes, should be sent back to the editor once completed. Upon receipt of the marked-up manuscript, the publisher will have 30 days to finalize the revisions, after which the work will be sent back to the author for final approval. If the author requests any further changes after this stage, additional charges will apply.
